Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is commonly used in the morning coffees, cheeseburgers, breath sprays, toothpicks, post-work smoothies, and other products as a booster ingredient. I won’t be exaggerated to say that the popularity of this product has gone skyrocketed in no time, that too, soon after its introduction. CBD is one of the most abundant compounds present in marijuana, with hundreds of others. It’s also present in medical marijuana that is used for several medical conditions and purposes. Since it is extracted from the hemp plant, most people have a wrong notion of it being similar to that of other drugs. But surprisingly, it doesn’t cause any “high” effect!!! To give a piece of evidence in the support of the above-mentioned claim, let me quote a report of WHO reporting that,

“In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…. To date, there is no evidence of public health-related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.”

Statistics show that considering the speed with which the CBD industry is flourishing in the US, it is expected that it will hit 16 billion USD till 2025. Brightfield Group, a cannabis market research firm, did a survey of 5000 people and found that 60% of users of CBD use it for chronic pain, insomnia, depression, and anxiety reasons. Most people use CBD to relax their inner demons and to escape real-time nightmares relating to some trauma. Some celebrities and famous personalities have used CBD on several occasions. For instance Kim Kardashian West used it to relax herself while she was freaking over having the fourth child.

The hemp plant has its roots in central Asia and is believed to be used for medicinal purposes and rituals since as early as 750 BC. Moreover, it is believed to help those going through drug addiction recovery or rehab. Although US federal law permits its use yet this legalized use is under the scrutiny of the Food and Drug Administration. All states have different but ambiguous positions over the extent of legalization.

CBD is believed to provide relaxation in anxiety, depression, and other psychological diseases. The major reason behind the popularity is its non-psychoactive nature. That means one can relax the nerves without being high and wasted. Dr. Brad Ingram, associate professor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, is currently working on the use of CBD in children and teenagers to encounter drug-resistant epilepsy. He said about CBD’s normalized and spreading use that,

“It’s the monster that has taken over the room.”

Co-director of McMaster University’s Michael G. DeGroote Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research in Hamilton, James MacKillop said,

“It’s promising in a lot of different therapeutic avenues because it’s relatively safe.”

Noticing the viral usage of CBD in several severe medical conditions, it won’t be wrong to say that it might open a new horizon to the medical possibilities.

Benefits

CBD helps in counseling of people fighting with psychological problems, such as depression. Since it induces a relaxing effect and decreases nervousness, it puts the patient at ease to let him be comfortable enough to share his worries and deepest fears. An experiment was conducted to study the effects of CBD on the general behavior of healthy people towards horrible and unpleasant images and words. It was found that the cannabis-induced group showed a stable approach than the placebo group. Not only this, soldiers coming from the war, children and teenagers with some trauma, and people with general life problems, who might develop PTSD while thinking over their life miseries can be saved through the intellectual use of Cannabis. With the ever boasting robotic routines and traumatic events, some relaxation is the demand of this era. Products containing cannabis, are known for the sleeping aid they provide.

“Surprisingly, CBD seems to act faster than conventional antidepressants,” said one of a fellow of Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies in Denmark. Moreover, CBD oil is used for pain-reducing purposes as well as for skin and hair. Recent research shows that heroin addicts have found CBD quite helpful in reducing the cravings and desire for drugs.
